CNPIEC

China National Publications Import & Export (Group) Corporation (CNPIEC) is a state-owned large-scale cultural enterprise founded in the same year as the People’s Republic of China. In April 2002 it was incorporated into China Publishing Group Corporation together with 13 public institutions affiliated to General Administration of Press and Publication, ending up as one of the members of China Publishing Group Corporation(CPG). In January 2009, a new CNPIEC was formed following its strategic restructuring with China National Publishing Industry Trading Corporation  (CNPITC). It boasts total assets of more than 3 billion yuan, over 2000 in-service staff members and 37 branches at home and abroad with a more diversified frame of business and a more systematic and integrated set of mutually-complementary business resources. With the formation of such six core businesses as import of publications, export of publications, domestic and overseas exhibitions, overseas publishing, domestic publishing and overseas outlets, it has become the largest and most competitive import and export enterprise in cultural products. Thanks to its excellent brand reputation, CNPIEC has become the organizer of Beijing International Book Fair, appointed supplier for UN’s book procurement and contractor of the newsstand project of Beijing 2008 Olympic Games, and hosts the office of China Guest of Honor of book fairs and the office of China Book International program.

CNPIEC is the largest importer and exporter of publications in China and has always been taking the lead. As the largest importer, it has the exclusive rights to import audio-visual products and the exclusive rights to sell imported newspaper and magazines in foreign-concerned places, with up to 10,000 domestic clients, covering 100,000 varieties of publications produced by more than 10,000 publishing companies and academic and social institutions located in over 110 countries and regions worldwide, which accounts for over 60% of the market share. And as the top-ranking exporter of publications with over 600,000 books exported each year, CNPIEC is actively involved in the state’s going-out strategy and endeavors to establish the largest platform for exporting publications in China, which resulted in the formation of “CNPIEC Publications Export Center” and “CNPIEC Overseas Publication and Distribution Center”. It has now extended its publishing and distribution business to US, UK, Germany, Canada, Japan and Russia with 20 publishing houses and bookstores abroad and a total of over 100 varieties of books published overseas each year. A multi-functional and rationally-distributed overseas marketing network of CNPIEC, which is set to incorporate import, export, publishing, wholesale and retail of books is gradually taking shape. For domestic publishing, World Publishing Corporation, Modern Press and Modern Reading Magazine affiliated to CNPIEC have all developed their own brand features in copyright purchase and gained advantage in publishing in the fields of science and technology, English, textbook, foreign-oriented books, cartoon animation and vogue. As of the end of 2008, they had published a total of over 20,000 titles and purchased copyrights of over 6,500 foreign Sci-Tech periodicals and more than 2,100 foreign books, ranking top nationwide in terms of the volume of copyrights purchased.
CNPIEC has been dedicated to the mission of developing the largest exhibition platform nationwide in the publishing industry and the newly-formed China Publications Expo International (International Expo Center of China Publishing Group Corporation) in February 2009 is the first professional organization in domestic publishing industry engaged in international book exhibition business, which organizes delegations to attend international book fairs in twenty countries and regions each year, such as Frankfurt Book Fair ,Paris Book Salon and Moscow Book Fair, etc. Beijing International Book Fair (BIBF), founded and organized by CNPIEC, has been successfully held for 15 sessions. It has become a substantially influential gala in international book industry and also a significant brand of CPG and CNPIEC.

CNPIEC outpaces its counterparts in informationization construction, as exemplified by its early establishment of independent e-commerce platform, CNPIEC Online, and successive development and employment of such business systems as CRM, cnpLINKer and PSOP, which, as the first choices of numerous customers, have vigorously promoted the all-round growth of its core businesses and the further improvement in its service, thus resulting in its increasing overall competitiveness.
